What is the 40-Hour Radiation Safety Training Course?

The Charles Lowe 40-Hour Radiation Safety Training Course is a comprehensive industrial radiation safety training program designed to prepare students for careers in industrial radiography and nondestructive testing (NDT).

The course covers radiation physics, biological effects of radiation, radiation protection principles, regulatory requirements, safe operating practices, and industrial radiography fundamentals commonly required by NDT employers.

Students may complete the training online through our Student Portal or attend an in-person class. Upon successful completion, students receive a Certificate of Completion and continued access to valuable training and employment resources.

Who should take this course?

 This course is ideal for:

• Individuals seeking a career in industrial radiography

• Entry-level NDT technicians

• Pipeline and refinery inspection personnel

• Aerospace and manufacturing professionals

• Individuals preparing for Certified Radiographer or ASNT IRRSP examinations

• Anyone requiring formal industrial radiation safety training

No prior radiation safety experience is required.

Is this training accepted by employers?

Yes. Our training is designed to satisfy common industrial radiation safety classroom training requirements used by many NDT companies throughout the United States.

Many employers require formal radiation safety training before allowing personnel to work with radioactive materials, exposure devices, or industrial X-ray equipment.

Does this training help prepare students for the ASNT IRRSP examination?

Yes. The course provides a strong foundation in radiation safety principles, regulations, and radiographic operations that are important for success on the ASNT Industrial Radiography and Radiation Safety Personnel (IRRSP) examination.

Many students use our course materials, practice resources, and Student Portal tools as part of their IRRSP exam preparation.

How do I enroll?

Enrolling is easy. Simply call or text us at 539-367-8416, complete our enrollment form, and we'll guide you through the next steps.

Once enrolled, you'll receive instructions for course access, payment options, and Student Portal login information. Our goal is to make the enrollment process simple and straightforward.

Is there a final exam?

Yes. There is a final examination at the conclusion of the course.

The exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions, each with four answer choices. To successfully complete the course, students must achieve a score of 70% or higher.

Students have up to 3 hours to complete the examination.

Upon successful completion, an official Certificate of Completion is issued to the student or, when applicable, to the sponsoring NDT company or paying organization.

What if I fail the exam—then what?

While it is uncommon for students to score below 70%, we understand that not everyone learns at the same pace.

If a student does not achieve a passing score on the first attempt, we review their course progress and examination results to identify areas requiring additional study and improvement.

When appropriate, we provide additional guidance, review materials, and support before offering an opportunity for re-examination.

Our goal is not simply to issue certificates—it is to help students understand radiation safety principles, build confidence, and prepare for success in the industrial radiography and NDT industry.

Above all, we want every student to develop the knowledge necessary to work safely with and around ionizing radiation.

Do you guarantee NDT employment after the course?

No. We do not guarantee employment, and to our knowledge, no training provider can guarantee employment in the NDT industry.

Employment opportunities depend on many factors, including location, job market conditions, employer requirements, work ethic, interview performance, and prior experience.

However, we are committed to helping our students prepare for success. Our Student Resources Program includes:

• NDT employment resources and company contacts

• Resume and interview preparation tools

• Guidance on industry certifications and career pathways

• Insights into what employers look for when hiring entry-level personnel

Many of our former students have gone on to work in pipeline inspection, refineries, aerospace, manufacturing, construction, and oil & gas operations throughout the United States.

Our goal is not only to provide training, but also to help students take the next step toward building a successful career in the NDT industry.

Do you offer refunds?

We understand that enrolling in a training course is an important decision. To ensure fairness for both students and our training organization, we offer a 24-hour refund period from the time of initial enrollment and Student Portal account creation.

After enrollment, students receive immediate access to course materials, downloadable resources, employment resources, and other proprietary training content. Because these materials become available immediately, refunds are generally not available after the 24-hour refund period has expired.

We encourage prospective students to contact us with any questions before enrolling so they can make an informed decision regarding the course and training program.

If you have questions regarding our refund policy, please call or text us at 539-367-8416.

How long does it take to finish the training course?

The in-person 40-Hour Radiation Safety Training Course is typically completed over 4 consecutive days with instructor-led classroom training.

Students enrolled in the online training program may complete the course at their own pace. Most students finish the training within 4 to 7 days, depending on their schedule and study habits.

The online course is designed to provide flexibility while ensuring students receive the same core radiation safety training concepts, instructional materials, and educational resources.

Do I still have access to the Student Portal after earning the certificate?

Yes. After completing the course and earning your Certificate of Completion, you will continue to have access to the Student Portal and its available resources.

We encourage students to continue reviewing radiation safety concepts, practice materials, and employment resources after completing the course. Many NDT companies administer their own radiation safety examinations during onboarding, and continued review can help reinforce important concepts.

Students may also use the Student Portal to access employment resources, study materials, downloadable forms, and future training updates.

Our goal is to support your continued professional development beyond the completion of the course.

Access is provided as a student benefit and may be updated periodically as new resources become available.

Do you accept grant money or other payments from state, federal, or tribal entities?

Yes. We gladly accept tuition payments through approved state, federal, tribal, workforce development, and grant-funded training programs.

To assist with processing, students are responsible for providing:

• The name of the sponsoring organization

• The appropriate point of contact

• Any required paperwork, authorizations, or supporting documentation

Please note that funding approvals and payment processing timelines vary by organization and may take additional time. Charles Lowe Radiation Safety and NDT Training will work directly with the sponsoring organization whenever possible to help facilitate the enrollment process.

We appreciate the opportunity to work with workforce development and grant-funded programs that help individuals enter and advance within the NDT industry.

If the NDT company paid for my training, do I still get a certificate?

If an NDT company, employer, or sponsoring organization pays for your training, the Certificate of Completion is generally issued to the paying entity unless other arrangements have been made in advance.

Questions regarding copies of certificates, training records, or proof of completion should be directed to the sponsoring company or organization.

Students who personally pay for their training typically receive their Certificate of Completion directly, allowing them to retain their training documentation for future employment opportunities.

If you have questions regarding certificate issuance before enrolling, please contact us prior to registration.

What if I lose my Certificate of Completion?

We strongly recommend that students make and retain multiple copies of their Certificate of Completion and store them in a safe location. Consider keeping both physical and digital copies for your records.

While Charles Lowe Radiation Safety and NDT Training attempts to maintain student training records, students should not rely solely on us as their permanent record keeper. Over time, records may become unavailable due to changes in software systems, business operations, data storage methods, or other circumstances beyond our control.

Many NDT employers, radiation safety programs, and regulatory compliance systems require proof that you have completed formal radiation safety training. Having immediate access to your Certificate of Completion can help prevent delays in hiring, onboarding, qualification reviews, or certification applications.

If you lose your certificate, we will make reasonable efforts to locate your training records and assist you. However, replacement certificates are not guaranteed if records cannot be verified.

For this reason, we strongly encourage all students to maintain multiple copies of their Certificate of Completion and other important training records throughout their careers.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Payment arrangements may be available on a case-by-case basis.

If you need assistance with tuition, please call or text 539-367-8416 to discuss your situation. We will review available options and determine whether a payment arrangement can be offered.

All payment arrangements are subject to approval and may require a down payment, scheduled payments, or other agreed-upon terms.

Our goal is to help qualified students obtain training while maintaining the integrity of the program.

Does your training course prepare me for the Certified Radiographer Exam or ASNT IRRSP exam?

Yes. Our 40-Hour Radiation Safety Training Course is designed to provide a strong foundation in radiation safety principles, industrial radiography practices, and regulatory requirements that are important for success in the industrial radiography industry.

In addition to the core training program, students have access to study materials, practice examinations, and additional resources available through the Student Portal.

These resources are designed to help students review key concepts, strengthen their understanding of radiation safety, and improve their confidence as they prepare for employer qualification examinations, Certified Radiographer examinations, and the ASNT IRRSP examination.

Is your course exam equivalent to the state exam or ASNT IRRSP exam?

No. Our course examination is not the same examination administered by regulatory agencies, employers, or ASNT.

However, our training program and final examination are designed to evaluate a student's understanding of the radiation safety concepts, regulations, and industrial radiography principles presented throughout the course.

The course examination helps reinforce learning, identify areas that may require additional review, and prepare students for future qualification, certification, and employment-related examinations.

Our goal is to provide students with the knowledge, confidence, and foundation necessary to succeed in the industrial radiography and NDT industry.

Do I need to actively participate and study to be successful in this course?

Success in this course requires active participation and a genuine effort to learn the material.

The purpose of the 40-Hour Radiation Safety Training Course is not simply to issue a certificate—it is to provide students with the knowledge and understanding needed to work safely and responsibly in the industrial radiography industry.

Students who take the time to study the course materials, review key concepts, and engage with the training content are typically better prepared for course examinations, employer qualification examinations, interviews, and future certification opportunities.

Our goal is to help students develop a strong foundation in radiation safety that will serve them throughout their careers.

Am I exposed to any ionizing radiation during the 40-hour radiation safety training?

No. Students are not exposed to ionizing radiation during the 40-Hour Radiation Safety Training Course.

Training is conducted in a classroom or online learning environment and does not involve the use of radioactive materials, radioactive sources, or industrial X-ray equipment.

The course focuses on radiation safety principles, regulatory requirements, operating procedures, and practical industry knowledge through classroom instruction, demonstrations, videos, and training aids.

When demonstration equipment is used, it is training equipment only and does not contain radioactive materials.

Student safety is always a top priority.
